I then pulled out printouts of the charts this utility provides took them with me to the Apple store, and showed the Apple guy my proof. They kept it a few days, called me and told me they couldn't duplicate the problem, and that their diag tools were top end, yada yada, and that I could come and get my G5. I ran it for a few hours and had proof that something was very wrong in drive bays, even though the drives were all fine, the heat spikes were jumping up wildly. I spent several days trying everything I could to find out what it was and resolve it. My G5 suddenly started developing problems with its fans.
I guess that's the one I would really like to get my hands on but your heat utility sounds like a handy one to have for sure.
Timeline wrote:The apple guy said they have special software that basically runs all systems full bore at max for hours to test for failures. I'm taking the machine back in but I ran the memory test and it came up faultless so I'm at wits end here. Crashes progressively worsened until I could not even open DP5.13 at all. Hangs creating corrupted DP sessions last night totaled three times in all.
Moving play bar backwards intermittent hangs. Loss of VSL instruments communication with overload spikes on CPU/HDs. The DP crash/hangs were from the following moves:Ĭurser moved over frame of editing window after crossfade done. I thought all you had to do was select the current bites and drop them into a DP track and they would self distribute. I remember ProTools never had this issue. I had to try to piece the vocals back together and found time stamps were missing on 20% of the sound bites.
Once when it corrupted me and did the crash/hang thing I had done a series of vocals. The song I'm working on is 90% VI's and a few live overdubs. I won in the end but this morning I opened up the session as a cold hard boot and no instability was anywhere to be found. Some corrupted the DP session file but fortunately I saved after every change and made backups to another drive while working. As I worked last night, more than 25 crashes occurred on the same song.
